The story
of the EvE BBQ
What started
as a vacation trip to denmark in 2005, soon spiraled out of
control to be a corporation meet for Evolution. 15 brave
souls managed to get to denmark, and meet up in the rented
villa. A few outsiders out of the corporation managed to get
there as well. In the end, the week was a total sucess, and
we had a blast, ending the week with a BBQ, and it was soon
decided we had to repeat this. The sauna sessions are best
forgotten, i don't think anyone will ever forget the foggy
sauna where the fumes were not of water... but of vodka.
In 2006 we
rented a small camp and invited our fellow corporations in
Band of Brothers, and the BBQ got nicknamed "BoB BBQ". This
year we managed to gather up about 40 people, who all spent
a awesome week in denmark again. The most memorably moments
include Siddy's drunken monolog to himself at about 5 am,
which ends with "Do i look like a minmatar?"... And yes, he
actually does. The word spread fast, and everyone who didn't
make it over, demanded that we repeat it.
The following
year, 2007, we opened up the last weekend, for anyone to
come join us, this was nicknamed "The invitational". We
managed to get a total of about 150 people to come join us,
and also got a spot on EVE-TV, which was later broadcasted
to the whole EvE community. This year will for always be
known as the year of "MOAR LOGS", with the campsite having a
epic fireplace in a theatrical setting. Many were the people
who never left the fireplace, and slept, ate, drank by the
fire for a week. The invitational was a success, and was to
be repeated in...
... 2008, the
year of the now infamous Pink Hat. We had grown to be known
all over, and this year the New York Times was also doing a
profile on me, and it ended up being done on the BBQ in
denmark. NYT sent a photographer over, and managed to get
the fluffy pink hat published in the newspaper... From here
it can only get worse. The BBQ gathered people from three
continents, europe, australia, and north america. The
invitational was once again a success, and new plans were
being formed for next year. Memorable moments was to be had
from the MS promo-van with Guitar Hero duels as well as the
bruises from the paintball tournament.
2009 was the
first year ever that we decided to not do the BBQ in
denmark, it was also decided that instead of doing the
invitational, we would open the full week for all of EvE.
Rumours has it that the mantra of this year was "What has
been seen, cannot be unseen!", and for everyone who was
there, it is plain why... The BBQ was set in a old military
camp, in Sweden, not far from Gothenburg. Once again, we had
visitors coming as far away as from the USA. Three chefs was
working doubletime to feed the masses, and some 900 litres
of beer was consumed.
2010 - 5 year anniversary
We are returning to our favourite camp in Denmark, since
denmark has proven to be the easiest place for people to get
to. The final schedule is yet to be written, but the dates
are solid, and the place has been rented. The prebookings
are open, and we aim to break the 200 people barrier. |
