Your Defining Moments In HW

oh hey Quar hows it goin? I always wanted to tell you how I admired you for never being a prick to anyone and always being a nice guy even to idiots like myself.

while I'm in this thread instead of continuing to post off topic stuff I'll add another defining moment.

A moment that defined my game was when I learned that I shouldn't do the same strat over and over or people are just going to keep owning me. Take radial symmetry for example. I thought I was the best evar on that map because I could kill tons of mediocre players on it as host (thankyou host advantage)then I played reki and he grav'd my super vwall that I always did on there. The next time we played for some reason I did the same thing and went for my vwall and reki owned me again with grav. Both times he even played as guest! I can't remember if it happened again or not after that but I learned that if you want to be really good at homeworld you have to know more than one strategy.

Before that, I recall molle doing it to me a number of times as well - geez, talk about giving a guy who likes really big corvwalls a hard time!!!! i mean.. gravwell! who woulda thought...?

Anyways thats another defining moment.

Heh guess i finally should add a couple of mine here. I am not much of a ladder player.. for me the enjoyment of the game came through team play. Not only in practicing 2v3 and 2v4 but also to engage another club in team battle.

I guess the first time i truly felt i arrived as a good player was when i would get on and several people would shout out how can they join DD, or being asked to train people. This was around late November 1999.

Second moment was December 1999 when stripe and myself were defeating clans such as BDU (they got good then), GODS (SLS), Co, DWP, WAR, and pretty much any others who offered up a team game.

December 31st 1999: While European nations were ringing in the new year Stripe and myself were playing a best out of 3 games with WAR. We lost the first game on scattered (this was truly a WAR map, it was their fav map). However we won the next two on Iron Curtain and Moonbase. While the Eiffel Tower was exploding so were their motherships on Moonbase.

Late March 2000: joining seventh rank. Back in my newbie days, this was the team. A great honor and to this day i still chat with many of them.

April 2000: Having APOLLO and BattleFox corner me on won.net and ask me to join SLS. They did not know i had joined 7th. For me this was a great compliment, for i had played against APOLLO and SLS mates since they were known as GODs (November 99)

April 2000: Having Aged ask me to join OMO (he did not know i had joined 7th). I was surprised due to their 35 yr olds and above rule. Aged said they would make an exception.

May 2000: Being asked to join BM. Even though i was not a ladder player, i was still asked to join.

June 2000: Smurfing with my fellow 7th rank mates as TS_Clumsy (Team Smurf). Was really fun to be back and playing HW we only had one loss.

And last but not least...

Spring 2001: Being asked by reki and frstkor13 at the same time, in two different priv messages on the eve-online irc server to join freelance. I had become great friends with these two and several others of the fl team.

A "pivotal" moment for me in Homeworld...

After months of practicing with MechaChiken, and after numerous late nights conjecturing about whether a swarm-gravwell change strat could ever defeat the best swarmers on subjugate, we faced off in one of our many ladder matches.

I showed Mecha the false opening which we had been talking about, but he had decided that I couldn't possibly be trying to trick him so openly! As a result, the dolt switched late from corvs to caps, yet the game was still close. He was quicker on the draw than most people in those days, and soon his frigates were matching mine. By this point, having lost my controller to his early swarm, I'd allowed my collectors to wander to the side. Now I needed to move my MS closer to them, especially since he'd sent some frigates after the poor defenseless souls (a cowardly act indeed)! So I turned my MS and send it downfield, toward the resource cloud...

Returning to the frigate battle down below, I suddenly found an angry Chiken cursing at me over the game chat! "Bastard!" "Cheap bastard!!!" he cried! "What?!?" I demanded to know, but I got no answer from him.

The game wound down slowly... and I had beaten off the attacking frigates... but where were his other ships?!?

He left in a huff, off for vacation or some such thing, and with nary a word.

Only later, after watching the recording, was I able to find out what had happened...

When I turned my mothership, my research ship had swung itself around the back and into his reinforcing frigates!

I would have felt terribly sorry to win the game in such a sordid way... had I not almost died laughing on the spot!!!

Thanks, Mecha, for many great games and an especially memorable lesson in the value of bad driving.

Well, first off its good too see some of the people I remember and see some of the post of those I have heard alot about. Thanks go out to frst for pointing me to this thread... one of the best ive seen online in some time.

As far as defining moments for me... theres a few, but I'll be brief...

#1 Founding the 101'st Tacticnal Navy after the game was released, and having both the honor and the privelege to play with some of the best (now) homeworlders in the world... (of course I remember when they where scrubs

#2 Sitting on the first HW ladder top 10 for over a month...

#3 Coming back to HW after a few months break and winning a 25 and under tournament undefeated and getting a little "HOT" tag next to me name... that was alot of fun! (methinks it was tagged with something later... that showed my victories as being beyond "HOT" but I forget..)

#4 Being well enough remembered in the community to get a point to this thread on Irc... look forward to seeing you all again soon in HW2... peace out, for now!

Well Ispose I should mention this just for my ego!
About a year ago I joined a 3v3 against 3 OMO. My allies were both newbies. Neway they decided to attack 1 ally the way OMO did with 3 swarms enmass fairly quickly demolishing him, well seing this I thought goin swarm was failure so I went grav.
Sent in the first grav towards Poly , worked beautifully and by the time Rogaine and Oldgit had also tried I had pretty well routed the 3 of them. Poly died first then I went for the others. Oh my god what I wasnt accused of! LOL. Even got my remaining ally to turn on me although I managed to change his mind back!
I have to say guys that was a most memorable victory, but your timing fitted my grav strat perfectly and I can understand your frustration and I must say that luck was definately on my side in that game. GG

Best moment, was when i was playing 2 on 2 with just about anyone and streaking, Best game i played... there was many, but some i still remember was when i played against hive and Prey and won by myself. Another one was when i played against lucifer for the second time on Subj. and killed is +40 something streak.


Or when i played two guys using false identity, and took out around 4 or 5 msl destroyers with a small wall of vettes, that game lasted for about 5 hours. And they seemed to know exacly how i played trying everything they could to counter my strat, which ended in me winning anyway. I was playing with a new BDU recruit that time.

See that's where the real challenge lies, doing the same ol' strat, perfecting it and playing against people who know how you play, giving them an headache trying to figure out how to beat you.

I brought something to the game and saying i was not up there is just your imagination kickin' in. Ask other people who played with me outside subj.

Subj. was all about speed and routine, that's how i won all my games, i won against all the top players one time or another, but you didn't see that in the ladder.



Anyway, great fun... good memories

one time it was me and magpie vs ugruk and somem other guy a long time ago on radial. they dbl swarmed us...mag went corvs, i went changeup with 2 res. we got owned in the beginning and i sneaked my 2 cols and controller off to the outer ring in the heat of battle...they collected just enough so that i could build gravs and sfs. and i ened up saving tha day!!!111one

and this other time i kicked frst's ass on talas after he just got done cussing me out

oh and when i beat hive and prey in the same day on ladder
