  • Leagues, practice, recruits and stuff

I don't know about you guys but I'm itching to improve at this game. The only way to do that is to start playing good teams, as a team. Running around public servers with 2, 3 or maybe 4 of us is fun but it is not going to do much to prepare us for going 6v6 or 7v7 against good teams in tourney or league settings. I think to be really good we need really good teamwork not l33tr individuals so much.

So I have a few of suggestions:

    1) Lets get up to at least 8 strong quickly. We should see if there are any people we know who want to join us like Dukath. If not we should start looking on public servers for the guys who fit right into team play but have no clan tag and feel some out about joining.

    2) Have some serious practice

serious means designated maps, prearranged strats, try to have set times, and everybody working. It would be good for example for us to get on an empty server and all run through the plant on the common maps and time it, then try to beat the times even with no opposition. Then we should practice the various routes like going boost over the wall in beach and time, compete against the clock. We should practice stuff like having 2 eng one drops the other arms; Lt calls an arty strike straight off its gonna drain his health bar so no point in hanging around for ammo packs there - how long does it take to recharge enough to drop a pack and where will the guys be on the map by then - would it make more sense to wait for half a power bar so the lt can than call an Airstrike - this way the guys know what the lt is doing and peeps arent jumping around saying I need ammo they will know hes recharging or he needs the power for the airstrike hes gonna call at objective 1 which we arrive at at 45 sec cos we timed it. I'm sure you get the picture - its pulling the maps apart like we did in HW, when do u get to the middle, where do you get the collector loads, how long before corvs blah blah. We should start this analysis now. You had better believe that the better teams do this. I have read interviews where they practice for any eventuality on maps. Also if we know how fast peeps can get to objectives and plant and so on we can plan counters. It will give us all a common gameplan to practice in fact we can practice our runs on empty maps on our comps when the guys arent around just like we did HW builds. Rules was calling some plays last night where the eng and the lt go separate ways to the south radar on base - it would be good to have that down pat so the eng knows to within a few sec when the lt is throwing the airstrike at the radar so he rush in straight away while the enemy is dead or hiding and plant or lob a few nades.

    3) We need to join a ladder now. We will suck at first. But it will get us used to playing competitively as a team. It will get us into a routine. It will expose us to good TEAMPLAY instead of just good players like on the pub servers. And frankly its gonna sort out who is going to just be a sunday afternoon player who will never be able to commit enough to play competitively from peeps who really want to - nothing wrong with either but I dont wanna practice a strat with somebody who isnt going to be there on the big day. ALso I remember the RFT game in BoB tourney - I was nervous as sh1t - it would be worth playing tourney just so it becomes routine and we settle down to it.

    Here are a couple of the big ladders;

    4) watch more demos and start to pull the strats from them not just watch the l33t shooting.

Im sure you guys get the picture. Its gonna take work to get good at this game - just like it did in HW. Some of the competition has been playing top flight UT, Quake or CS for YEARS and they got a real head start. However we have done this before. We know what to do to get good - its microanalysis, practice and teamwork. I am up for the challenge. In fact doing this - climbing that steep learning curve to get a really good team - is a big part of the fun for me, more so than just running around a few public servers every night killing n00bs. I realize some peeps arent up for this but I hope most of you are. If you are its time to get serious. No more ad lib games making stuff up on the spur of the moment, seeing whos around. We need to get organized, have a plan, play regularly and play together, and if we cant play together be practising alone the stuff that we're going to be doing together when we meet.

And one more thing, this forum needs to become secure or we should stop using it and post on the other one.

    Reaps out.
Shoot first - argue on the forums later

Id like to get more members first and a couple practices in before we sign up - also i need to know everyones time they can play, if u want to compete or your just doing this for laffs. Proactices with a full team is cruial and i think im gonna make it mandatory or you wont play the following tounrey match or ladder match. I dotn wanna sound mean but this is key for us to win. I mean we will try to set up practices that everyone can join, and if u miss if becuse u really couldnt then i can understand. ALthought the time you guys put here is the time i expect you to show up.

Having practices with 3 -4 players if NOT gonna cut it, sure you might be the leetest player in the game and you dont need practice but if thats the case go play UT.

Heh but listen guys we might not be great yet - its becuase we havnt talked about alot of things yet (as a team) I think when the server goes up we will start to develop.

If im sounding bossy or liek a bitch its cuase i wanna push this team in the rite direction. I almost conseder this FL's next game. I committed to HW and hey i wasnt a shabby player and apart of a good clan as SLS is too. All of us KNOWN hw players. WE have to establish this in RTCW. and WE WILL k.

ALso reap these forums are secure and im on east coast, avaiable all the time im avake.

    Rule.

yay - a well timed post reaps =] (rules will know what im talkin about).

i really wish i could play with you guys & i would jump on board now if ping didnt mean so much. you've all seen what happens to my connection on most US servers - it makes me half the player. it was interesting listening to the prematch interview yesterday and all the talk about ping. they were talking distances to the server from within the states having advantages when it comes to the big league.. let alone distances from another country - its just not do-able. the time factor is also a problem.

i would love to come along to your pracs, however, and help out in any way i can. We have some really good training drills going on which i could show you & also some decent map strats - they really work. reaps is correct, part of the tourney thing is getting used to it, and preparing to be flexible. ive started to realise that the depth of strategy in rtcw goes just as deeply, if not more deeply, than homeworld. the contingency plan (ie. change to plan b, c, d whatever) is a big thing.

i'd suggest organising two practice times per week, like a sunday and wed night or something & making at least one of them mandatory. like rules said, if you dont show - you dont play. you need to get 10-12 players in your lineup as the tourneys are generally 6-10 player teams & obviously some ppl cant make it here or there. you will find the recruits to be very enthused, if our team is anything to go by.

re the privacy of the forums - it seems to be a bit of a bug, but these subforums seem to let a few ppl here an there through randomly & there is no pattern to it. what i will do is make you a proper forum on the GS list (ie. so its not in the freelance section) and that should fix the problem. ive told rules that he needs to provide me with the design first, however.

you gotta do this guys - the tourney scene in this game is unbelievable. i actually get excited all day when we have a match coming up & the excitement during the games is like no other gaming experience... heaps better than hw ladder games.

ps. get the voicecomms happening - it really helps.
